    A new generation of chocolate flavours are popping up behind truffle counters in North America. So long are the plain Jane days of chocolate and peanut butter. Hello, to lemongrass, smoky meat flavours, lavender, peanut butter and jelly sandwich, potato chips and did I mention bacon? But these flavors are not for kids. Artisan chocolatiers are making these wacky combinations for a classy crowd and infusing bars that definitely go outside the traditional chocolate box.

    Chocolate just got a whole lot more manly. With flavours like bacon, beer, pretzel, Bourbon, peanut-butter-jelly, burnt butter and whiskey becoming popular among chocolate combos it IS the perfect gift for Dad this Father’s day.

    Now I know what your thinking, ‘chocolate is for the ladies’. Although milk is popular among females, studies suggest that dark chocolate is especially popular among men. Go figure Dad leans towards the dark side, but dark chocolate is what we know best! And there is tons to choose from that are macho enough for the guy who mows the lawn, sharpens power tools and taught you how to ride your bike.

    'Semisweet and Choco-locate’ come to South Africa!

    Semisweet: Life in Chocolate is one of 40 documentaries chosen to screen at the Durban International Film Festival. Thats the best chocolate news we have heard all week! DIFF is South Africa’s largest and longest-running film festival. It presents over 290 screenings of current films from around the world.

    The festival July 19-29 has a strong focus on South African and African cinema and we are excited to see the response to our film.

    Screenings take place throughout Durban including township areas where cinemas are normally non-existent. The festival also runs extensive seminar and workshop programs to stimulate industry capacity.

Choco-locate in Ontario Business Report

When award winning filmmaker Lalita Krishna was in Silver Springs, Maryland, pitching PBS on her new documentary "Semi-sweet," she found herself in a mall looking for some of the sweet stuff to take to the meeting. That's when she had a "light-bulb moment" about the perfect "transmedia" extension to her documentary about "the world of chocolate," which she was proposing to shoot at locations in Africa, Europe, the US and Canada. 'Film tells the not-so-sweet side of chocolate'

What do you think of when you think of chocolate? Decadence? Dieting? An industry rife with exploitation and labour abuses?

Toronto director Michael Allcock offers a peek at the various sides of chocolate in the new documentary Semisweet: Life In Chocolate, airing on TVO on June 6. The film tells four stories – of Ron Obadia and Nadine Artemis, two raw food enthusiasts; of employees who live and work in Hershey, Pa., known as “The Sweetest Place on Earth” and more.
